Job Description

Himalayan Nature (HN) is an international conservation research institute, initiating scientific research on Himalayan floral and faunal diversity and the broader environment. HN head office is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Himalayan Nature seeks applications for interested result oriented Nepalese candidates for the following posts.

01. Senior Program Officer (1) Based at Kathmandu Head Office

Major Responsibility

The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for preparing appeals, request letters and any other necessary documents related to programs and plans on research, conservation, education and awareness on conservation of biodiversity. S/he will also be responsible for planning and developing proposals on biodiversity and nature conservation issues. S/he is responsible for implementation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and liaison with the donor agencies and follow up of programs of various HN projects. The position requires extensive travel in the field sites.


A Master’s degree in Zoology, Forestry, and Environment Science with a sound knowledge on biodiversity conservation. Strong interpersonal and team-player skills are essential. S/he should have prior experience in biodiversity conservation field.

02. Program Associate (1) Based at Banke/Bardia

Major Responsibility

The key objective of this role is to assist in field implementation of community-based project activities including field monitoring, trainings, workshops, data collection, data entry, reporting, local coordination and other necessary community based works as per the need of the projects.


To be successful in this role applicants should ideally have at least Bachelor’s Degree or above in social sciences or related field and previous working experience of at least one year in similar position, be computer literate with strong organisational skills, ability to multi-task, keep tracks of priorities and possess strong inter-personal skills. The position is field based and successful applicant must be willing to spend time in the field as necessary. Local candidates are encouraged to apply.

03. Communication Associate cum Receptionist (1)

Major Responsibility

Based at Kathmandu Head Office, Communication Associate cum Receptionist will be responsible for providing secretarial, clerical and administrative support. The post holder will serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately; communicating with relevant staff about visitor arrival; facilitating with event organization, maintaining security and telecommunications system.


At least Bachelors’ degree is required with prior working experience at biodiversity conservation. Candidate should have an excellent talent to interact with people and should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient in handling office equipment including complex multiple lined telephones, printers, photocopy machines etc, with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, specifically MS Word and Excel.
